Nelnet, one of the country?s top education finance companies, is warning hundreds of thousands students about a big loss of personal information.
According to a KUTV.com story, Nelnet says a computer data tape was lost while being shipped by UPS.
On that tape is personal information about current and former student loans, including borrower names, social security numbers, and account numbers.
Nelnet claims the data is safe due to ?sophisticated equipment? needed to access the information. Fortunately for Nelnet, the seedy world of data theft is filled with underachieving technophobes who probably won?t ever get around to cracking their supersecret code of ?sophistication.?
