With everyone from policymakers and journalists to consumers themselves becoming more and more concerned about the deepening credit and mortgage crises in this country, the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) is gathering in Baltimore, September 8 through 11 to address these and other pressing issues confronting Americans.

This year’s conference will bring together more than 200 agency executives, credit counselors, national leaders and stakeholders from around the country.  Featured speakers and panels in Baltimore include:

  • Susan C. Keating, NFCC President & CEO, delivering the State of the Credit Counseling Sector address;
  • Federal Housing Commissioner Brian C. Montgomery, HUD, will offer his insight into the turbulent housing market;
  • U.S. Treasurer Anna Escobedo Cabral will provide comments on the importance of financial education and financial literacy in America;
  •  Peggy Twohig, Division of Financial Practices, Federal Trade Commission, will update attendees on the emergence and challenges posed by the debt settlement industry;
  • Peter Bell, President, National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association, will offer his thoughts on the changing face of the reverse mortgage sector;
  • Morris Segall, President, SPG Trend Advisors will offer comments from an economist’s point of view on the current economic environment; and
  • Jeanette Walls, New York Times best-selling author of “The Glass Castle” will discuss her real-life story of growing up in poverty and overcoming it to lead a financially successful life.

In addition, there will be numerous panels, workshops and other presentations addressing important issues and providing agency representatives with the tools to better serve consumers.
