John Burwick, beloved by many, passed away on June 22nd, 2013, at the age of 75. He will be greatly missed by family, including his two daughters, friends, employees and colleagues.
John Burwick was not only the co-owner of Associated Credit Services. He was a forward-thinking, astute businessman, negotiator and leader in the industry.
John was born and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts. He graduated from Bryant College. In 1969, John co-founded Associated Credit Services with longtime friend, Bernad Seder, both “Worcester boys.” John invested a mere $1,750. When his accountant promised him that the business wouldn’t last more than a year, John was more determined than ever to prove him wrong, which he did.
John and Ned started with a couple of phones, index cards and the will to succeed. The company continued to grow and succeed. In 1999, Andrew Robinson, a long-time, valued employee at Associated, purchased Seder’s shares of Associated. The company continued to thrive, marketing nationally and exceeding 100 employees in 2007. When John retired in 2012, his daughter, Cindy Burwick, an integral part of the management of Associated for over twenty years, acquired his share of the company.
Andy and Cindy continue to lead Associated, ushering in the new era of the CFPB and guiding the 45 year old organization on its journey to continued best in class service, security, compliance and results. John’s passing is a great loss to many. However, his work ethic, intelligence, passion to succeed and devotion to his employees will remain an example for the years ahead.
