Bankrate.com is running a story today laying out the dispute between collection industry trade groups and the FCC concerning the use of autodialers to contact cell phones for the purpose of debt collection.


At issue is the FCC 2003 interpretation of a rule that appears in the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. ACA International has been petitioning the FCC to clarify the ruling. The association says that the FCC inadvertently made it illegal, or at best ambiguous, for debt collectors to use autodialers to contact cell phone numbers for debt collection.
