Maybe it?s the kilts. According to a story running in the Scotsman, more than £5 million (US$9.2M) in unpaid student loans has been retrieved by debt-collection agencies in Scotland in the past five years ? with £1.26 million (US$2.3M) collected in 2005 alone.
Nicol Stephen, the minister for lifelong learning, said debt-collection agencies were called in when all other attempts to collect money from former students had failed.
