Ohio City's Contract with Debt Collection Agency Working Well

A contract with a debt collection agency to recover traffic fine debt is paying off for the city of Dayton, Ohio, according to a local television station.

The contract with Capital Recovery Systems began in the middle of last year and brought in about $120,000. But so far this year, the company has recovered some $450,000.

The collection agency focuses on recovering unpaid fines and fees assessed by traffic cameras.

“It’s good considering the money that the state cut us this year,” City Manager Tim Riordan told WDTN 2 NEWS. “The state cut us this year and they’re going to go another 25% this year, cuts us almost six or seven million dollars. Yeah I’m happy to get the additional revenue, but that’s not why we’re doing this program. We want to change behavior for safety.”
