The Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) has elected Robert L. Broadway, FHFMA, to serve as the organization’s voluntary Chairman of the Board of Directors for 2008-09. His term began June 1, 2008 with his induction at HFMA’s Annual National Institute, June 24-26 in Las Vegas, NV. Broadway is Vice President of Corporate Strategy at the Bethesda Healthcare System, Boynton Beach, FL.
Making Connections, the new Chairman’s theme, was introduced at ANI. Its supporting principles will help HFMA members in their leadership role within their organizations. Broadway stated, "As healthcare financial professionals we need to connect the right people with the right information, in order to connect our knowledge of healthcare business issues with patients, employers, payers, and others who are affected by and who will influence the healthcare system."
HFMA’s immediate past Chairman, Mary Beth Briscoe, FHFMA, CFO of UAB Health System, said, "Bob’s passion for healthcare finance and for HFMA, along with his strategic vision will make him a great leader for HFMA and strengthen the connections not only within HFMA membership, but also within the larger healthcare community."
HFMA President and CEO, Richard L. Clarke, DHA, FHFMA, said, "Bob’s theme is very timely because all healthcare finance stakeholders – providers, payers, employers, and consumers – will need to enrich both their business and personal connections in order to reach consensus on the growing and complex issues facing our industry."
A member of HFMA since 1978, Broadway has served HFMA in many roles on the national and chapter levels. He was Chapter Liaison Representative and a member of the Nominating Committee, the Chapter Advancement Team, the Development Advisory Group, the National Matrix, the Managed Care Forum Advisory Council, the National Advisory Councils, and the Davis Chapter Management System Task Force.
Broadway is a member of the Board of Directors and the Board’s Executive Committee, and he has been chairman of the Board’s Audit and Finance Committee and Strategic Planning Committee.
Broadway has also served as president of the Florida Chapter. He has received the Follmer Bronze, Reeves Silver, Muncie Gold, and Medal of Honor merit awards.
